People, Words & Change celebrated International Literacy Day with the 7th annual Power of Words Breakfast. This inspiring event was held in the Unitarian Fellowship Hall at Heartwood House.
Our dedicated volunteer tutors are the reason why People, Words & Change is such a warm, inspiring, and unique place to learn. Our tutors and learners work and grow together, and it is this work and growth that change lives.
PWC learners, volunteer tutors, and supporters; the Ottawa Public Library; Twice Upon a Time; and representatives from Employment Ontario employment service sites and Ottawa community resource agencies joined us to celebrate International Literacy Day, September 8. PWC’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Event didn’t disappoint. Many of our dedicated volunteers were on hand to receive our heartfelt thanks for the work they do throughout the year, tutoring PWC’s learners in basic reading, writing, math and/or computer skills. Thanks to the support of our very generous sponsors, we enjoyed a fantastic array of savoury snacks and sweet treats, and each of our tutors went home with a gift certificate or item as a token of our appreciation.
