Power of Words Breakfast – September 6th, 2013

September 6, 2013 by People, Words & Change

PWC’s fourth annual Power of Words Breakfast, celebrating the achievements of our literacy learners, was a great success. Master of Ceremonies CTV-Ottawa Sports Director Terry Marcotte led the way with charm and enthusiasm. Our special guest speaker, the Honourable Don Meredith, Senator for Ontario inspired everyone with his story of coming to Canada as an immigrant with few literacy skills at the age of 19, and the many challenges he had to overcome on his path to success. Five PWC learners then spoke about their own personal literacy challenges and how PWC has supported them on their journey to improving their skills and quality of life. All of the speakers showed courage and humour in sharing their personal stories with the audience.

A HUGE thank you goes out to our generous sponsors, the learners, volunteer tutors, PWC Board Members and staff, members of the community, friends of PWC, and our guest speakers. Around 120 people enjoyed a delicious breakfast catered by the Newport Restaurant.
