Exciting News! PWC’s new website and promotional video have
launched!
On June 19, 2025, we officially revealed the new site to our learners, tutors,
board members, community partners, and special guests. The event was emceed by
The Hon. Jim Munson. Special guests included City Councillors Jeff Leiper
and Laura Dudas, who spoke kindly about the importance of literacy skills and
of the work PWC does in the Ottawa community.
Our new website, video, and rack card were made possible by a grant from the Peter Gzowski Foundation for Literacy (PGFL). Brigid Hayes and Scott Walter from the PGFL attended the event. Brigid spoke about the background and mandate of the PGFL Grant and the importance of using clear language to make messaging accessible and understandable for all.
Andrew Forbes, author and literacy advocate, was the keynote speaker. He
delivered a poignant and thought-provoking address about some of the
current threats to literacy and ultimately, the power that literacy plays in a
person’s life.
(See below to read his address.)
Jamie and Lisa, two members from the creative team of Character Creative
unveiled the new site and video at the event. The three learners who were in the new video also enjoyed the official reveal of the video and got to meet each other for the first time!
PWC would like to thank all those who made the website and launch event
possible: the Peter Gzowski Foundation for Literacy for the grant; The Louise
Penny Foundation and Dollarama for their donations; Character Creative; Good
Eats; and all the staff and volunteers who helped plan and organize the event.
The Hon. Jim Munson was the emcee.
