Power of Words Breakfast – September 8th, 2017

March 16, 2018 by People, Words & Change

People, Words & Change celebrated International Literacy Day with the 8th annual Power of Words Breakfast. This inspiring event was held in the Unitarian Fellowship Hall at Heartwood House.

Our emcee, CTV Ottawa Sports Director Terry Marcotte, led us through the morning’s events. We started off with the fun and foot-stomping Hey Buster singing their hit, Community Begins with C. This was followed by five brave learners telling us their “Now I Can!” success stories. There were even quite a few laughs in there! Our special guest, Senior Citizenship Judge Renata Brum, then gave a heartfelt and motivating speech raising awareness of the need for literacy and perseverance in learning. Our book raffle of recent titles was also a great success!

As always, we enjoyed a delicious hot breakfast buffet, had free books for learners to take home, and generously donated magazines for all who attended. We look forward to seeing you all at the 9th Power of Words Breakfast next year!
